Hi, I'm Alicia!

A proud fermentation ‘mother’.

How it all began…

Utilizing whole foods in home cooking is the best way to monitor what goes into your body, ensuring you are living your best, most enriching life.

The ability to cook our own food with ingredients we choose in our own kitchens is something that I've learned never to take for granted. During my undergraduate degree I studied at the University of Calgary and abroad in Singapore. As much as it was one of the best experiences of my life, it was exceptionally difficult to keep up a wholesome diet living in a dorm room with only a microwave and a kettle. I was eating out all the time, sometimes twice, three times a day! Not knowing what was going into my body daily was making me uneasy (not to mention queasy). I had altered my diet in favour of more convenient, processed food while I was living abroad, and it was starting to take a toll. Needless to say I needed a change.

Upon graduation and my return to Canada after living abroad, I found the thing I was most excited for was simply to cook for myself and consume balanced meals. Like they say, you never really know what you've got 'till it's gone. After being deprived for so long of home-cooked, fresh, and healthy meals, my body really did thank me once I started cooking again.

Here I've translated my passion for a home-cooked meal, nutrition, fermentation, and sustainable living into this little creation you see before you. I hope you find something you like, or at least some inspiration for creations of your own!

Currently, I am completing the Masters of Dietetics and Human Nutrition program at the University of British Columbia. The information stated in my posts is either taken from class notes, textbooks, or other peer-reviewed articles in scholarly journals.
